Norman Melendres

A Sr. Transportation Scheduler with 16 years of CPM Scheduling experience and well versed in Project Cost and Schedule Controls, Resource Management, Earned Value Management and Project Planning on projects like Airport Facilities, Transportation, Wastewater, Hydropower Generation, Manufacturing Facilities and Structural Upgrades. Has a great knowledge on Primavera Enterprise software (All P6 versions). Has experience with Earned Value Management using Primavera and Spreadsheets creating project performance reports on cost and schedule. Have been a Team Member on Project Management Process Control teams in creating Baseline, Change Management and Work Breakdown Processes and Procedures. Evaluates RFP and BAFO Contractor Submittals (as owner representative) on Contractual and Baseline Schedules. Assists a group of planners to create an Integrated Master Schedule procedure. Creates and defines Planning and Scheduling Management Plans. Practices Project Controls Methodologies from AACEI (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International) and PMI (Project Management Institute). Multiple assignments has made Norman versatile in Monitoring and Controlling Programs and Projects on any Industry. Norman is currently their company’s representative for COMTO (Conference Of Minority Transportation Officials) Washington Chapter.


Kamran Hazini, PhD, P. Eng, PMP, PSP, CCP

Kamran Hazini has more than twenty two years of professional experience in project management and controls of oil, gas, petrochemical, power generation & transmission, and transportation industry mega-projects. Kamran holds a doctorate degree in civil engineering and an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering, conducted research studies in schedule compression techniques and developed a patented time-cost optimization tool. He authored several publications in scientific journals and presented in various professional conferences. Kamran is a licensed Professional Engineer, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) as well as AACE’s Certified Cost Professional (CCP) and Planning/Scheduling Professional (PSP). He is currently Deputy Director of Risk Engineering at Sound Transit.

Roger Kong

Roger has over 26 years of experience in Project Controls, Project Management, Investment, Treasury and Banking on a variety of projects/products in type, size, complexity and level of risk. He has a strong background in all aspects of project controls in budgeting and cost management, investment in maximizing returns for safety and soundness, cash management in designing new financial systems/ procedures/ tracking and banking in developing/maintaining/increasing commercial portfolio to assure loan quality and performance. Roger currently works as a Cost Control Supervisor at Sound Transit; overseeing a portfolio of projects and contracts. He has been a new member of AACEI since relocating to Seattle from Hawaii in 2018. Roger holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Business Economics from Willamette University located in Salem, Oregon.


Brian Smith, CCP, PMP

Brian has been a member of AACE International since the 1990s and earned his CCC (now CCP) in 2001. He has been a participant and presenter at a variety of AACE events including regional chapter meetings (Seattle and Cascade), the Western Winter Workshop and at National (San Antonio). Currently a Project Controls Manager with Mott MacDonald North America, Brian has taken advantage of AACE’s sanctioned events and training to encourage the development of Project Controls skills for his staff and colleagues. Brian has over 30 years of experience in Project Controls in a variety of industries including Mining, Aerospace Manufacturing, Wastewater, Power Cogeneration, Light Rail, Highways and Tunnels. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Washington State University and a Geographic Information Systems


Michael Truman

Michael has almost 20 years of experience in project control working for contractors, consultants, and agencies to stand up projects, control cost and schedule, and manage change. He has worked in commercial building construction, power generation, transportation, and mining. He is currently a Senior Schedule Engineer at Sound Transit where he oversees the schedules for projects in the East Corridor, from alternatives analysis and project development through contractor procurement, construction, and rail activation. Michael’s depth of experience ranges from planning and scheduling to contract management, document control, and project workflow. He has developed and delivered training programs for the fundamentals of CPM scheduling, as well as project execution through the use of various commercial software programs.

Ken Sparks

Ken has 25 years of experience in project controls and project management, including schedule development, maintenance, and management. Areas of expertise include claims, delay and time impact analysis and documentation, and cost estimating, He has worked as both owner representative and contractor on major infrastructure projects for project/program master schedules. His project experience includes work on heavy construction projects, including light rail, heavy rail, tunneling, roadway programs, bridges (conventional and segmental), wastewater treatment, process piping, and commercial developments at various phases of project development, from planning to design, construction, and start-up/commissioning.
Ken is currently a Senior Scheduler with HNTB, working on the Puget Sound Gateway Program for WSDOT, and has held his PSP certification since 2009


Ryan Mallory

Ryan is a project controls and information systems consultant with over 10 years of experience in a variety of private and public sections supporting EPCC projects, R&D strategies, and lifecycle integrity programs for capital systems. Mr. Mallory specializes in the implementation of project controls processes, provides a strong technical background for systems management, and has assisted organizations in training and cultural changes for effective project management. He’s currently employed with Jacobs engineering as a project controls professional, providing support to projects and the company in cost, schedule, and estimate services. Ryan joined AACE International in 2012 after gaining an EVP certification. Ryan has a B.S. degree in Management Information Systems from Washington State University.


Lorena Ware

Lorena has 25+ years of project management and project controls experience. Her roles and responsibilities include project manager, real estate development, master scheduler, project control lead, contract management, cost estimator; in a variety of industries, such as commercial, residential, heavy civil, transit, mass transportation, marine, aviation, tribal, academic, medical, industrial and software implementation.

Currently, Lorena is a project controls lead for City of Seattle Dept of Transportation. She "drives" toward creating a safe, equitable, vibrant, affordable, and innovative city for all. From filling potholes to paving streets, tweaking traffic signals and helping buses and freight deliveries run on time, creating enjoyable public spaces and building out a network of bike lanes and sidewalks to serve all ages and abilities. Lorena plans to obtain a Master’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Washington in 2021.


Brian Hood, MBA, PMP

Brian Hood, MBA, PMP, has more than 20 years of experience managing project and construction schedules in various industries including airport terminal construction, school construction, oil and gas, power generation, transportation, travel, wireless telecommunications, and petrochemical. Brian is currently a Sr. Project controls and Risk Management consultant for Planning and Management Services Inc. Brian received his PMP certification in 2001 from the Project Management Institute and received his MBA in 2006 from the University of Phoenix. Brian’s extensive depth of knowledge ranges from project planning and scheduling, to implementation of project management solutions. Brian has developed and delivered training curriculums in multiple industries on various software solutions but specifically developed best of class training for the Primavera suite of tools. Brian also is a US Navy veteran who completed the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida and served aboard 2 Ships; USS Arkansas and the USS Enterprise.
